Pay for building contractors varies depending on the success of their business and the number of jobs they are able to get. There may be times when they have no work.

According to industry sources, building contractors usually earn between $25 and $35 an hour but some earn up to $50 an hour.


According to the 2006 Census, building contractors earned an average of $39,500 a year and worked an average of 43 hours per week. This includes full and part-time workers.
